The 【2019】activity of Kansai Stanford Club (KSC)

Saturday,July 20, 2019, Organizers’ Meeting

From 12:00 am to 3:00 pm, we held on Organizer’s Meeting at the Stanford Japan Center at Doshisha University. 5 organizers attended ( Chairman & yearly secretary Mr. Ishida, yearly secretariy Mr. Inaba, Mr. Ito, Mr. Shigesada, Mr. Tomimasu).

The items discussed were as follows: 1. Schedule for the second half of 2019 　　(1) Confirmed 　　　　- October 5th (Sat.) Autumn Welcome Party for Stanford Students 　　　　　Place : Amherst Guest House (needs to be reserved 3 months in advance) 　　　　　Time : 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm 　　(2) unconfirmed 　　　　- Organizers’ Meeting will be held in Middle of November 　　　　- The New Year’s Party will be held in Beginning of January 2020

2. Autumn Welcome Party 　　(1) Cost 　　　　- KSC members : \4,000 　　　　- Students invited by KSC, friends and family members : \2,000 　　　　- SJC president, SJC staff, about 26 Stanford students and students invited by JSC : free

　　(2) Details 　　　　- The number of Stanford Students will be 26, the same as in spring 2019. A total of 50-60 guests is expected. 　　　　- We need to prepare information labels about the ingredients of the dishes to avoid problems with allergies 　　　　　or dietary restrictions. 　　　　- Recently, the Autumn Welcome Party has become as important as the Spring Welcome Party, 　　　　　as the number of visiting students has steadily increased.

Saturday, April 13, 2019, Spring Welcome Party for the Stanford Internship Students

From 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm, we held the Spring Internship Student’s Welcome Party at the Amherst Guest House in Doshisha University.

A total of 75 people attended; 26 Stanford students, SJC president Mike Hugh and two other professors, one teaching assistant and 5 Japanese students, 18 Kansai Stanford Club members and 23 other guests attended.

After the welcome speeches by KSC President Ishida and SJC President Hugh, Professors Ximena Briceno and Hector Hoyos gave a short presentation about a new development at Stanford University called “Stanford Now”.

After lunch, we had the paper airplane flying contest. This year we selected 5 people from three groups in the qualifying round and a first place, second place and third place winner in the final round. We marked the target zone with rope. In the contest, the longest distance was 17.5m.

After the contest, we all sang the song “Kono hiroi nohara ippai” under the lead of professional calzone singer Masue Kato. Then, the KSC members introduced themselves.

During the event, we enjoyed very good weather and while eating lunch, many students sat on the veranda of the guest house enjoying the view of a large weeping cherry tree in full bloom.

New Year's Party on Saturday, January 12, 2019

From 11:00 to 14:00, the members of the Kansai Stanford Club and their family members and SJC President, Mike Hugh, a total of 12 people, held a New Year's Party at "Octavar", a restaurant at Hotel Keihan in Kyoto.

1. 2018 reports and 2019elections (11:00-12:00) 　　(1) Activities in 2018 　　(2) Audits of 2018 　　(3) Mr. Ishida was elected chairman for 2019 and 2020. 　　(4) Mr. Inaba and Mr. Ishida were elected secretaries for 2019.

2. New Year's Party (12:00-14:00) 　　(1) Mr. Ishida made a speech as new chairman. 　　(2) SJC President, Mike Hugh made a new year's speech. 　　(3) Self-introduction of the guests.

3. Organizers' Meeting (14:00-15:00) 　　(1) The dates of the welcome parties in 2019 were decided. 　　　　spring : April 13th, autumn : October 8th 　　(2) Ideas for party activities were discussed.
