Chronology of Kansai Stanford Club (KSC)
Establishment of KSC
-
1913. Tomitaro Suzuki (Philosophy. BA 1913) and other Stanford graduates in the Kansai area established an alumni group.
-
1945. Kansai Stanford Club (KSC) reunited after the war. Members: Tomitaro Suzuki, Hatsutaro Nishimura (Mechanical Engineering, 1918), Gunki Kai (BA 1921; Economics, MA 1922), Genichi Horibe (Economics, 1922), Masaichi Hirayama (Economics, AB 1933, Business, MBA 1937), and others. Takeo Matsumoto (Journalism, 1952) joined KSC later.

1964. Yuzo Nakagawa (Chemical Research Associate, 1961-1964) and Tadao Kotaka (Biochemical Research Associate 1961-1963) joined KSC.

1970. Yuzo Nakagawa was elected as the second KSC President.

1987. U.S. consul Michael Benefiel (History, AB 1971) joined KSC with his wife, Elizabeth Benefiel (Political Science, AB 1972).
Independent Alumni Club in Kansai

1988. U.S. Stanford Alumni Association (SAA) confirmed KSC as an independent alumni club.

1989. Stanford Japan Center (SJC) opened in Kyoto. KSC participated in a reception in honor of Prince Hironomiya, President Donald Kennedy of Stanford University, U.S. Ambassador Armacost, and President Nishijima of Kyoto University.

1990. JSA President Teisuke Akamatsu (Law Special-Student 1962) and other JSA members visited KSC to attend the annual Club meeting.
Prof. T. MacDougall (SJC) and KSC Activities

1995. Terry MacDougall joined SJC as Director of Stanford Center for Technology and Innovation (SCTI), and started the Welcome Party for Stanford students coming to Kyoto as SCTI students.

2004. Kunihiro Ueda (Medical Research Associate 76) was elected as the third KSC President, and enacted the KSC bylaws with the help of Yukio Ito (MSE engineering 1980).

2006. Tetsuhiko Endo (Mechanical engineering, MS 1973; Mechnical engineering 1975) was elected as the fourth KSC President.
Move of SJC office

2007. Stanford Japan Center moved to Doshisha University Campus, Kyoto.

2008. Prof. MacDougall retired from SJC and was succeeded by Prof. Andrew Horvat.

2009. KSC Home Page was set up.

2010. Chikafusa Bessho (Bio,Visiting Scholar 1988) was elected as the fifth KSC President.

2013. Yukio Ito (MSE engineering 1980) was elected as the sixth KSC President.

2014. Dr. Mike Hugh succeeded the president of Japan Stanford Center.

2017. Hoyu Ishida (Religious Studies, MS of Arts 1984) was elected as the seventh KSC President.
